How long do Anti-wrinkle injections last?

On average anti-wrinkle injections last 3 months, this can vary depending on factors like metabolism, lifestyle and muscle memory. Botulinum Toxin will take full effect after 14 days. Muscles will start to move again in 6-8 weeks and full movement is usually within 3 months.

What are the side effects of Anti-wrinkle injections?

Common side effects include redness and swelling over injection sites for 30 minutes after injections. Bruising is common and is treated with regular ice packs and arnica cream. Headaches can occur in the initial few days while the muscles are relaxing. Less common effects include brow and lid heaviness reported in 3-5% of cases. Allergy to Botulinum Toxin is extremely rare.

What precautions should be taken after my Anti-wrinkle injections?

Do not reapply any products onto the face for 24 hours after injections and keep hands away from the face. Alcohol consumption and exercise should also be avoided for the remainder of the day. Stay upright for 5 hours after injections. Avoid warm temperatures for 72 hours. Facials, hair removal and sun beds should be postponed for at least 2 weeks.

What is dermal filler?

Dermal filler is a naturally occurring substance in human cells called hyaluronic acid. It is injected as a bulking agent to add volume and lift to areas in the face to reduce signs of ageing and fatigue. This clinic uses premium fillers from the Juvederm Vycross range. Each product is designed for different needs such as volume, structure, lift and longevity.

Is dermal filler painful and how long will it last?

Dermal filler injections are not a painless procedure. Each syringe contains a local anaesthetic which provides comfort during the procedure. Topical anaesthetic ointment is applied to lips prior to filler injections. Lip filler (Ultra range) will last usually between 6-9 months while cheek, jawline and chin filler (Voluma Range) can last between 12-18 months.

What are the side effects of dermal filler injections?

The most common side effects include redness, bruising and swelling which can take 2-4 weeks to fully settle. In extremely rare cases filler can be injected into a blood vessel and cause tissue damage but will be dissolved quickly by the doctor. Lumps are not common but are usually reduced effectively by regular massage. Allergic reaction is also extremely rare. 

What are the aftercare considerations for micro-needling?

Medical grade micro-needling requires a needle depth between than 2-5 mm into the deep skin layers. These micro-injuries stimulate organised tissue healing and have been clinically proven to reduce scarring and pigment irregularities. Common risks include bleeding, redness and pain. In rare incidences there is possible infection or unwanted pigmentation changes. Patients should avoid exercise, skin products and make-up for 24 hours afterwards and cancel any upcoming skin treatments for the proceeding 2 weeks. Skin prep with Vitamin A+C is advised for optimal healing results.

What are the aftercare considerations for thread-lift?

Thread-lift is an excellent treatment when used in combination with other injectables such as dermal fillers and collagen stimulators. Performed under local anaesthesia the procedure is relatively painless with best results appreciated after 8-12 weeks. Patients commonly experience bruising, swelling and pain or tightness along the thread. Skin puckering can be easily corrected on follow-up. Patients should keep their head elevated for several days post-op and avoid alcohol and exercise for at least 24 hours. Massage and rubbing is to be avoided. Bruising can be avoided with regular ice packs and topical or oral arnica. 

What are the aftercare considerations for a chemical peel?

Patients should prep their skin with topical Vitamin A + C for several weeks prior to their peel. During the peel there will be 2-3 minutes of mild-moderate stinging sensation and there will be redness and white patches on the skin afterwards. The skin will peel gently and gradually over the following week. Best results are appreciated after 3 courses. Infection and altered pigmentation are rare complications.

What are the aftercare considerations for Skin Boosters?

Skin Boosters (also known by the brand name Profhilo) is the injection of hyaluronic acid into the deep skin layers to rehydrate and increase skin tone. There is mild stinging during the procedure and lumps will form immediately after which should dissipate after 24 hours. Infection, swelling and allergic reaction are rare. At least two treatment courses are recommended for best results.
